Reviews for Finding True North

"Rettig is a natural storyteller, illuminating her subjects in rich, penetrating prose...Finding True North is a finely wrought series of portraits depicting humans’ impact on the largest American state."

–Kirkus Reviews

"With unusually vivid storytelling unfolding across an epic canvas, Molly Rettig gives voice to the men and women–miners, trappers and pilots, archaeologists and Native elders–whose lives trace the history of modern Alaska, and explain why the Great Land exerts such a powerful grip on the national imagination. Molly Rettig is one hell of a writer, and in Finding True North spins one hell of a story."

–Scott Weidensaul,

author of Pulitzer Prize finalist Living on the Wind

"Finding True North is unlike any Alaska book I have previously encountered...This is a book about Alaska as a homeland, with its many quandaries. And about how its author, by listening to those who have long lived here, found her own home."

–Anchorage Daily News
